Aloha Rael,
Okay…It looks like we have a race to see who gets to the South Pacific first!
Your whole concept is really cool and the name reflects it all.
Keep up the good work,
claudio

Cool video. You’re planning to go a long way! Up to now I was surprised how South African the eastern European accent sounded, ha.

Just a note, the double oceanic lateen rig has been used before at least once, on Taratai.

I took the “double oceanic lateen” from the polynesian catamarans. it has been used many times before.
what’s new about my rig is that it works like a single crab claw as the sails move from bow to bow on cars that ride on cables.
so as fore sail gets pulled by endless line, aft sail comes along, making it easy for 1 person to shunt. that’s the plan anyway…..
so you could say this is a “double oceanic crab claw”.............. as it’s smack in the middle between the two.
just hope it don’t get to complicated when I get to rigging…...
but we will get through that too.

Yep like I said Taratai has this rig. Have a look at the end of this video:

There’s a really interesting book about the build and voyage, also called Taratai. The boat is now in the maritime museum in Auckland. You can walk underneath it, very impressive.

It’s a great project Rael! I think your decision to want to make the entire design available to anyone, free of charge, is very noble of you! 😊 There aren’t a lot of proas out there in this size range for which you can get plans at all (the only one I know of is ‘Madness’ and in the near future possibly Paul Bieker’s ‘Jester’ class proa which is still in the works though), so having your design available will add greatly to the pool of knowledge which is out there. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it sails. 😊

Keep it up, and fair winds in your endeavour!

Marco

Thanks Marco, what I said I will do, but only after the boat has proved itself.
safety comes first!!!
  good luck with your design.

I know what you mean, the last thing you’d want is someone building a boat by the plans and then getting in trouble with it.

And thanks!—For the moment my project is sort of mothballed for a couple weeks, we’ve got our study / exam period at the moment, but in September and October I’ll have absolute freetime to work on the boat as much as I want, and hopefully get the entire ama built—I’m really looking forward to that! 😊
