Outrigger Junior from CLC

Quick on the heels of the proa Madness, John Harris of Chesapeake Light Craft has announced the new Outrigger Junior as the latest member of the CLC stable. A 15’ plywood stitch-n-glue sailing outrigger, OJ is car-top-able, beach-able, tack-able, build-able and afford-able, so maybe not so crazy after all. Special thanks to Proafile reader Brian P. for the submission!

Inspired by Warren Seamen’s Malibu Outrigger, this boat is truly a chip off the old block, and we love pretty much everything about it, especially the rig, which is pure genius.

This new sailing canoe would be a great thing if it was only plans, but this is the cool thing: two boats have been already built “in secret” at the WoodenBoat School in Maine, and are now undergoing sea trials in Maryland. Look for kits and plans come early spring!

Read about the gestation of the design here at John’s blog, and see the photos of the first sail here on Facebook.
