Proas

Le Prao Pink

The French have a way with boats, and that savoir faire certainly extends to proas. Praocéan is a proper proa, which means it exists partially in the dreamtime - a pink elephant on parade. The "illogical" Pacific flying proa configuration, the mythical crab claw sail, the whimsical eye-shaped portholes, the VALIS hue, the Venetian posture of the helmsman, all point to a craft intended for navigation not only on the earth, but also among the stars. Fair winds and Godspeed.

  • Great to see a boat on the water and moving so nicely too - I always think it is strange that everyone argues endlessly about designs on paper but when one just appears fully formed people seem dumbstruck!

Funny you should mention the venetian posture of the helmsman - having done a bit of venetian rowing in the last few years I have often thought that a proa would be a great boat for that style.  The drag of the ama would actually help with steering and the enhanced stability over a monohull would probably make it more secure.  A low volume ama would probably be better to slow down the motion a bit.  Row/sailing should be possible too.

I can’t wait for more details of this boat!
