A Southern Star

Hans Claar sailing in the wake of the Polynesian navigators.
A superb ethnic double canoe and the superb CSN - together at the Southern Cross.

Ethnic Polynesian Double Canoe built by Hans Klaar, James Wharram, Oct 2007.
Thanks to CO'H for the heads up.

  • Notice, too, the hulls are assymetrical in length, making it, I guess, a form of proa. Love the gnarled branch he uses as a tiller extension.

  • The islanders seemed to play pretty loose with their double canoes of either tacking or shunting variety - rarely were the hulls identical twins. Love the rig.
