New Seaclipper 20

Posted by on 06/16 at 06:47 PM
Jim Brown rocks the boat, again.

Multihulls make great camp cruisers… in theory. In practice, they are expensive and complex, cumbersome to launch and trailer, and just plain awkward in a monohull oriented environment. Until now. Jim Brown and his long time collaborator, Ron Marples, have at last created the VW microbus of multihulls - the new Seaclipper 20. The boat is simple to build, robust, a snap to rig and launch, safe, comfy and yes… even fast!

A standard used beach cat rig keeps the cost down and the performance up, and finally, a standard 7’ square dome tent converts the boat into a luxurious camp site! I am SO happy to see a new trimaran design that isn’t all carbon fiber and made in China.

  • Wow, Michael!  This is a really lovely design.  A cruiser’s cruiser.  There’s something extra cool about it being brought to us by the man who started it all--at least in earnest.

Hmmm, it might be a good follow up project for when my daughter and I finish our 16’ wa’apa!

  • Very interesting, one of my favorite designers from way back.
What does it weight, how much sail area, whats the beam, how much did it cost, and will it fly the main hull.
I looked at the web site an only found out how much it cost. Not much to get me to pay for the study plans.
Do you expect a follow up article? Most new boats don’t.
Sure would like to know how this compares to a Cross 18, Discovery 20, CC23, Tremelino, etc.
How do they hold down the kick up rudder?, that looks like a good place for rot, and difficult to put back down.
Would anyone take this on a Everglades Challenge?

    Thanks
