Terms of Use

Participation in the proafile.com website constitutes agreement to the following guidelines, which apply to posts, profile information, avatars, signatures, any other content on this site and participation in general.

  • Don't be rude.
  • Don't sell stuff or services.
  • Don't post inappropriate pictures.
  • Don't whine at the Admin.
  • Don't create a new user account to come back in if you are banned.

We believe that co-operative participation is a superior method of developing proas and promoting their image in the sailing world.

We do not believe the 'debate' method is the best way of researching and developing any issue regarding proas. It automatically creates an opponent. When people are forced to become defensive, creativity suffers and growth stops. This affects us all.

Respect is the name of the game. You must respect your fellow members. Please refrain from inflammatory and defamatory comments as well as flaming, taunting, goading and general disrespect towards other members (or former members), their ideas and designs. Disrepect includes being deliberately obtuse, repeating points or arguments excessively and misrepresenting someone's position or ideas. The use of “Strawman arguments”, “Red Herrings” and other contentious debating techniques are not only disrespectful of the member being addressed but also to the community as a whole. Infringements will be measured against the question “was it disrespectful?”. It may sound ineffective or a strange way to advance knowledge (and truth), but it works!

Bullies are not welcome. They may bring expertise to a forum but there is always a larger hidden cost in terms of lost input and creativity from other members. For further information on advantages of this organising principle, see “The No Asshole Rule”, by Prof. Robert Sutton.

There is a facility alongside forum comments to report them to the moderator should any member feel a breach of our etiquette has occurred. Responding to a violation in an inflammatory manner is a violation in itself and will be deleted and a warning will be given.

The Moderating Policy is to delete the offending comment and issue a warning. Three warnings will be given and a fourth infringement will result in automatic and permanent banning. Discretion may be exercised by the moderators in the case of a lengthy time period between infringements. Moderators and the administrator have the final say on anything. If you have a problem, you may make a complaint to them directly and not publicly on the website. Creating threads or posts that question or reference administrative decisions or potential administrative decisions, such as post removals and thread closures, is not permitted. We are not perfect and if you feel that we have made a mistake, please privately contact a staff member and we will review the situation.

We know that people will have to leave our community (of their own free will or otherwise) from time to time and to that end, we do not delete accounts, posts or other content posted on our community. All content is granted to us with perpetual electronic publishing rights because any content posted on this community becomes a part of the community, even if you no longer are. You may request an item to be removed at any time, but we will decide when and if to remove content from our community. If you wish to no longer be identified with our community, we will be glad to close your account and alter your profile information to remove all identifying characteristics. After account closure, you will no longer be able to participate in this community and this action is not reversible.

All messages posted at this site express the views of the author, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the owners and administrators of this site.

Again, mutual respect is the name of the game. Everybody responds well to it. This forum has been created for your enjoyment. Please enjoy it to the full.

Do you have a question about our Terms of Use or anything else? Do you have a suggestion? Do you want to offer some feedback? Or are you experiencing some trouble with the site? Well, no matter what it is, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be glad to help in any way that we can.

Thank you for visiting Proafile.com.
