A 57’ solar electric sail hybrid with 18’ sailing dingy that fits in a 20’ container and you can tow on a snowmobile trailer. At least that’s the idea

I think your designs are just extraordinary, Timothy. Is it demountable or folding?

Wait, so the cabin with the galley and bunks in it folds down?

That’s cool.  I mean as long as it has to to fit in its box, why not.

There’s a lot of cool thinking going on here, and a healthy spoonful of insanity—which I like.

Best,
Chris

Lots of cool stuff going on, like the way outboard safety ama and the traditional skiff for a tender.

What is going on with the mast support etc? could you show a close up and post some notes, I can just see a big curved support, I am sure there is something fancy going on.

The boat folds and telescopes to 19’4” by 7’6” by 6’10”.and should fit on a snow mobile trailer in a standard garage fitted with an 8’ door or a 20’ container with the trailer wheels removed. I will try and post an animation showing the details The boat would require a rather awkward 20’ by 14 ‘marina slip or a an equivalent campsite space if used as an RV. .When steaming the plug in tender acts as a nacelle for the Torqeedo engine that can be remotely operated from the cockpit,I chose a lug rigged skiff skiff for its simplicity load capacity and the possibility that it can be induced to plane with such a small power plant when operated independent of the mother ship. I wanted a single rudder and single sail with a single sheet on a balanced rig and single line shunting. The idea here is that as the rudder is hauled end to end of its track during a shunt the rig is reversed. The rotating half ellipse sectioned telescoping mast is offset in its bearings and curved so that the luff is significantly forward of the point of rotation.. The line controlling mast cant that passes through a block secured to the mast at the point that there is a hole in the luff pocket to allow for the attachment of the half wishbone boom, keeps the leading edge of the mast aligned to the wind. To maitain adequate leech tension there is a vang attached to the end of the wishbone and secured to the base of the mast.

The sole of the cabin containing the inflatable or foam beds and composting head drops and is a counterweight for the hinged top that rises providing for 6’2"standing headroom in the galley head shower compartment and 4’6” sitting headroom in the staterooms. The cockpit has 4"6 sitting headroom enclosed or 6’4” standing head room with only the “Bimini” panel raised.

Another placement for your solar panels?

I decided against a rigid wing with a solar panel skin because available panels are still a little too heavy and at any rate I couldn’t figure a way to fold the rig into the box I am constrained to. I thought for now a transparent and highly reflective sail could be used until such time as suitable solar fabric becomes available. One of the objectives of this concept is that it could be made by the home builder in a shed or garage without having to sell the house ,or sold at a modest profit by a professional builder for less than the Range Rover that in my dreams is used to take it to the beech.
