you can ... admire the polynesians ... if you want to ....
for having sailed in their natural craft > to populate all of polynesia !

but can you copy their crew size > mostly their humane environment ?
warm waters .... steady winds .... for your own sailing ....

I am not going to tell any one to go out hiking to the float ...
in some gusty ... nasty cold weather ! 

I am not going out their myself !
period .

at most > I want to sit in my protected cockpit
and steer .... or being inside > protected from ....

so we have to adapt the proa of polynesia > to our needs !
we need a rig for this > we need the stability for gusty conditions ...

the polynesians mostly never .... if ever experienced ....
you can see a squall in the trade winds coming for 1/2 hour !

I have been ... sailing since 1965 ... thinking about rigs ..... crossing oceans ....
designing and sailing my many a proa model and real size .....

testing some of them in the strait of gibraltar in winter ..... at bft 12 gusts !
where people where crawling about the harbor ......not walking any more .....

and there is no alternative in my mind to the fixed mast western rig !

as much as I like the 2 way idea of the proa >
the original cc or gibon rig are just good for day sailing or if having a big crew !

not even close for single crew .... cruising needs

the western rig > is perfectly suited for a cruising proa >

un stayed ?

I maybe considering having an unstayed mast .... on a dingy
or some tender mono !

where the staying base whould be needing spreaders a many !
and where a turning mast > would be aero dynamically > a good thing !

but on a spreading all out proa ???

where you can be with out any spreaders >
having your mast stability garantied !

at the cost of your slick standing rigging ....

because there you should be tending to >
to having no tangs on the mast > to having no need for all those turn buckles !
and because of your wide spread > you need only ... fine wire stays ....

being shurely a lot less drag > then any un stayed mast
just think of this .... on being in a storm > with out any sails on
think of the weight up there !

to be causing all of those wipping motions .....

head room ?

I am building a sail boat for sailing > not around ?
you will not serve the proa principle ...

if you are building it around a ball room !

on sailing .... you are mostly sitting on down to navigate
to cook some thing or be sleeping to rest up !

and if you arrived at your dream environment in polynesia >
you can pitch your tent over your bridge deck >
and have your ball room !

I am having standing head room im my 100’
because there > its build in > not around !

and plan on going to some beach to land on >
not some marina ....

so .... for what are you limiting your loa ?
they dont charge on beaches .... or anchoring on open road steads

but from your lenght on the water you are having a comfort
greater then any head room can provide .....
