I’m sure if you have the skills to create a website in java, you must have the skills to edit a wiki!

There is a guide on how to create your first page here:
http://proa.me/wiki/doku.php?id=wiki:first_page

You can make as many mistakes as you like, because the wiki saves all the previous versions of pages in case something goes wrong.

My interest is in smaller proa’s at the moment so I was never motivated to do this. I’ve been busy moving the last of the pages from the old wikiproa version to this new one though, and I can assure you once you do a couple of pages you will start to love it! Very easy to for example resize the images on a page, just by copying the page text into a text editor, doing a find and replace on the filesize, and then pasting back into the page editor.

Anyway, you have been involved with proas online for a a long time, so we know the directory is in good hands with you, and won’t just suddenly disappear. So once again, excellent work!

Thank you for compliments. As I said, I will restrict the ‘Cruising Proa Directory’ to cruising boats, because work is limited, and I can manage it easily.

For all the ‘hundred’ small boats WIKI may be the better solution. Someone has to start with an example as guideline for presentation, otherwise you ‘lost in space’ with to much informations and pictures. Main restriction must be only presenting existing boats, no ideas or drafts. Max. 3-5 pictures, some technical data, and 10 lines of description. Then we may get comparable Information.

Eg.
=========== Proa Directory ==============
Overview about all sailing proas (without accomodation). Please add your boat data as follows:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name of boat
Name of builder
1. Picture
Technical data:
Length Vaka
Length Ama
Beam over all
Weight
Sail Area
2. Picture
Description of eg. building method, sailing experiences, etc.
3. Picture
Link to Website (if available)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

But the problem remains, who will do it, who will care about. Not every DIYS boat builder is familiar with computer, and web objects.

marina ....

actually we need as well a real ....  proa marina ... every where !
where there are no slips .... what for ?

they are just a nuisance with a proa !

where you can drive with your car and trailor up and unload >
where to take off on a beach or what ever ....

where your car and trailor are safe !
where to have a camp fire or what ever ....

my last place ....
the harbor master was a swiss national in spain !
and he let me park my vfp behind the marina isle !

but he retired .... so right now > I have no idea where to go ??

any owner of a lot on the water > bay > river > open beach !
could list his place on this >>> proa marina list ....

because other wise we may never see any thing real
get off the ground !

by the way > the data on my boats > are listed under designs > here >
” plan for the vfp “
