That’s an interesting idea, Tom.  It could help the aesthetics.

I’m trying to avoid any large openings that need to be sealed…like a seam between two halves.  But if both halves were sealed, that could be cool.

Earlier versions had a cover over the cockpit—but I kept thinking of Michael’s story of the pop top on his proa flooding the lee pod.  Maybe I’d stuff a cooler and dry bag in the dinghy cockpit so it couldn’t fill too much.

But the bigger question is does a 24’ proa have much use for a dinghy?

Chris,

I did kind of envision a catamaran where the seating was the longtitudinal thwart with a hing in the middle, and a self bailing footwell in each sealed hull.  If the dinghy were 48” wide, the lever arm on the “wrong” side of the CB would move “in” from 24” to whatever the gunwale to CL distance is for your sponson design on the dinghy.  this would shorten the necessary amount of aka protrucing to that side as well as reduce it’s necessary diameter/weight.  No more holes in the side of the dinghy either.

Do you need it?  that’s a personal decision.  I’ve got a mental image of a PDR style little cat with it’s own little rig for screwing around off the beach or in the marina, or a a child/grand child toy at destination if you have one of those little critters along.
