I have just come across James Brett’s lovely little model   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfmoYQBCa0A

Got to be the quickest shunt ever, courtesy of linked rudders and of course the balanced junk rig.

James,  did you do any further testing?  Would like to see it in waves. Also being knocked over, will the full length blister do the trick?

Perhaps difficult to tell from a small model, but I wonder how good the windward performance is with twin rudders?

Mark,  fellow junk & proa holic!

Thanks Mark

Love the video and the one that shows how it works

From the videos of his full size proa Brett did not test the twin rudders full size which is a shame I used them on TP02 and they worked fine, it was before I had a GPS and don’t have data on how close winded the twin rudders where.

Loving all the model talk, I don’t think my next proa will be full size.

That model seams to sail fast compared to my models. I think models can tell a lot about behaviour in waves, speed and stuff, but it is very difficult to make any hard numbers based on models. They give a good (or bad) indication of what is going on. It is very easy to simulate a full blown gale for a scale-model. 3 feet waves compares to 15 - 30 feet waves (based on the scale of the model). 3 feet waves breaking and crashing up on a beach is a true horror-story for a 4 feet proa.

Cheers,
Johannes
