Personally if you are going to go sailing with a kite there is only one way, a proa. Just like Dave Culp in 1987…. Much better that yours truly in TP01

Cool idea but you wouldn’t want it to suddenly stop. That hydrofoil might cut you in half!

I think its an absolutely brilliant idea!  I toyed with something similar except it was a kite in the air and a “model airplane” below the water in opposition.

I’m not sure what body posture is best for being dragged behind that contraption, but it sure looks like a cool device.

Chris,

What you are describing seems to be “l’aile d’eau” (litterally; the water wing). It was devised and tested by a French architecture student, a few years ago. You can find a video here:

Yes, I know… all in French…

He also produced some kind of a Thesis document on this topic, that you can find here.
WARNING; VERY LARGE document (36 MB)
All in French as well, and on top of that, a PhD thesis type French, not your conversational French…

Cheers,

Laurent

PS: I agree with you, brilliant idea, speed record breaking concept (no heeling moment, so infinite forces is possible!!! errr, until something breaks…)

That thing just needs a foil on the back to really get up and boogie!
