Hi Skip.
a sailor (Reto Brehm) of the P5 has developed a reefing system for his delta sail which may fit also to bigger sail areas. The efficieny close -hauled is a little bit less, as he said, but generally it works fine.
Cheers
Othmar

Thanks Othmar,

I wasn’t aware of that particular rig, it looks like Reto was wiser than me in that he didn’t try to bundle up the leading edge of the sail, which pretty much destroys aerodynamics close-hauled (at least on my P52).

There is a lot to be said for a crab claw rig, the first iteration on P52 was able to shunt thru less than 100 degrees per GPS upwind in light winds which was a pleasant surprise considering the stab in the dark design and cheap build. OTOH some of my experiences in stronger winds I hope to never repeat.

Cheers,
Skip, still waiting to heal enough to jump back into a magnificent trivial obsession
