Congratulations from me, too, Tom. I think the upturned bows are a more away from “Margaret Thatcher” 😊 Keep at it.

Built an 8m proa two years ago with such a simple hull design ... and it works. Vaka length cwl 7.8 m, beam cwl 0.39 m, ratio 20:1. With a draft of 0.2 m get a displacement of 400 kg. The hull has no rocker, only the last two meters to the bows are a little bit lifted. Easy to build, and efficient in water, only close-hauled I use a daggerboard in the ama. Othmar,

Thanks for the input.  I really enjoyed the video of Kalapuna, she appears to move very well.

If I can ever find a place to build and some time, I wouldn’t be very nervous about moving forward with this design.

Hi Tom,
if you are ready to start building, I can support you with “plans” for it, if requested. I estimate it needs around 60 to 70 days to build it ready for sail.

Othmar,

That’s very generous, thank you.  I still need to find a “cost effective” long term building site.  I live on a 36’ trawler, and the marina takes exception to construction projects on their docks 😉  When I find shop space for a year at a cost I can afford, there’s a 24’ proa in my future.

Thanks again,

Tom
