hi all this is what I’ve been getting up to…..
getting ready to finally sheet the hull and turn it over, then “next year” start the deck.
been messing with the model, and will really try to make those sails go ahead…...
the CE will go ahead, just must try out a few ways to get that done…...
no plan is a good plan sometimes…. and winter is wonderful for slowing down and thinking more…..
otherwise, moving the way I want, and I like the way things are turning out. so here is a short clip
of my battle against the cold, and some ideas…
all the best and good luck to all.

Rael, thanks for the tour of your Balkan Ship Yards! What is the outside temperature up there this time of year?

Looks like the crab claw schooner is coming along well. Have you made a scale model for testing yet?

hi all this is what I’ve been getting up to…..

Thanks for the update.  Wish I could find indoor space to set up a Canadian National Capital Shipyard.  -25C here tonight, cold enough to freeze your gnards off.  Got to be careful walking the dog tonight.  She may turn into a Pupsicle.

Hi all, here in the Balkan mountains of Bulgaria, winters are semi nasty…. a couple days ago, got to work, outside was 9 below zero.
inside Balkan Ship Yards was minus 4. in an hour and a half I can get 18 only with “Igor” (that old ugly 5 kw heater). if I want more, I can
add a couple more KWs of them cheap hot air blower things made in china. at the moment outside the tent is usually just below zero.
hoping for a mild winter, it can get nasty…. 20 below is not unusual.
as for a model, I build them when I feel i need them. my opinion about models is: yes, they help a lot. but a model cant perform like the real thing.
that’s just how physics work. small things perform different from big things….... but still probably will put a rig on my model, just to get a good look of things.
tomorrow back to the epoxy, just can’t wait to put on them doctor gloves…...
    all d best.

I suppose “semi-nasty” is a relative term, because that sounds plenty nasty to me already. Yesterday here in Florida it was so cold that I had to put on a sweatshirt before I took my dog for her morning walk.  It was 15°C outside, but don’t worry, it was back up to 20°C this morning. 😉

When you say “doctor gloves” what type of rubber are you referring to?  I’m not sure if you’re aware, and I believe it bears repeating even if you are aware, that Latex gloves don’t really protect you from any of the nasty stuff in epoxy.  They keep your fingers from getting sticky, but that’s about it.  Nitrile gloves are much better in that respect.

old greg, now that’s a comment worth remembering.
didn’t know that, and tomorrow will look at the box to see what it says.
but still, if latex keeps my hands clean, would there still be a problem???

In the short term, no problems.

In the long term, you will be more likely to develop an epoxy sensitivity or allergy.
