I was on a cruise with some friends on a Tiki 26 last week. We decided to tack all the way up a narrow channel for some reason and came across a nice proa on a mooring. It’s Jerry/Southernoutrigger’s boat from the proafile mailing list. I had no idea it was up here so that was a cool surprise.
These big images rock! What a cool and funky little boat, I’m glad you happened by… what are the chances.
Nice! Thanks for posting these nice pictures.
Jerry never told us.
I would love to see some sailing videos and pictures.
Cheers,
Peter
What a cool boat. I love the cabin thingie and the whole island vibe.
Yes! Sailing pictures, please. Jerry, are you out there? Nice OC1s by the way!
Hi All,
Here are some photos that I found at this website:
Wharram Builders and Friends - Jeremy Walker’s page
The craft first hit the water around March/April of last year. According to one of Jerry’s posts, the waka (or main hull) is much like a 23 ft Wharram hull, and the crabclaw sail is about 115 sq ft in area. Other measurements are unknown, even to Jerry!
Cheers,
Paul
To see a proa - similar to Jerry’s - in action, you could do worse than to spend 6 minutes watching this video:
Contains some excellent shots of the craft in action. No narration, so if the music’s not to your liking, just turn down the volume.
Cheers,
Paul
These are remarkable craft. Would love to see an extreme, hi-tech, westernised version of the design, something along the lines of Teh Pookie, but more so.
