Very nice, Hugo! The perforated deck is looking sweet.

Did you add to the beam with your folding akas?  What is the BOA?  What is the distance between your akas?  How long is your platform?  What adjustments are you making to the rig?

I love the musical paint job.

Looking forward to more sailing video!

Chris

Thanks Chris,

BOA is back to 8ft for now. I articulated the akas for easy storage trailering/cartoping and assembly, more than this beam and I get back to the same volume, or need more complex system. I did prepair the ama so I can ballast it if needed, just by filling it with bags of sand or water or anything else.
All the other dimensions are the same.
On the rig, for now I’ll keep the same sail but i have some bits of a stronger lazer mast (3” and tick wall) that I’ll try to use with only a back stay, or none at all if possible. The slot and base are already changed, now just need to figure out and put together all the bits of the mast (all salvaged stuff…). I’m scheeming on other rigging and sail stuff for after testing the chine runner.

I don’t want to change much at least until I get it on the water and test the chine runner, to try and get objective data.
Proud Mary music sheet seemed apropriate, glad you like it! Sailing videos asap…

Simon, thanks for your interest in this tread. As you probably realize, I’m not very sure about any of this vortex and chine runners stuff(nor much else really!), I like messing around and try simple stuff, and don’t generally have much expectations. PM is a flat bottom box, witch seems to be the perfect shape to try one of this devices, but is also sails on very shallow draft and flat’ish, so it might be worst now than before… but it will be easier to cut off than it was to add it on!

The deep V hull you mention, from my understanding, might do well without any such devices. Johannes has some very interesting threads on deep v hulls.

Cheers

For the rigging, have you considered pulling the tack of the sail tight against the bow, rather than allowing it to float around? This way your mast sees no bending loads in the forward direction. That’s how I had the lateen on my boat set up, very nice to not deal with backstays. It’s a bit fiddly getting all the angles and lengths right first time.

EDIT: Forgot to say: your boat looks fantastic!

That’s kind of the plan, I agree that the triangle mast, yard and hull as to be quite stiff, but still have to work out how to do it, as my yard comes from above I might need to add a stopper/resting bit to the bow, or/and use a different block arrangement.
The “floating around” you see now is from the block, as the yard is generally tight on the block.
It’s nice to see you managed to get rid of the stays in your canoe, there is hope!

Thanks Thomas.
