Hi. I have been lurking this forum from the start, and have been following the Proafie for many yeras.
I’m planing to upgrade from my Tiki21 to a larger Proa in the next few years. I need beds for at least 5 adults. I guess that will put me betwene 12-15m.
My main need is a boat that is easy to handle in the tight waters around the Scandinavian archipelagos. The Tiki21 have been the idea boat for adventures where not many other boats than kayaks can/should be sailed.
As far as rigging, I guess an unstayed mast with balestron / http://www.balancedrig.com/ is the best option for easy handling.
So that would put Harryproa high on the list. But I guess both the pure Atlantic and Pacific designs are more stable on both tacks? And a pacific proa would give me more livingspace for the money.
Or is a Tri the way to go for me?? A used Dragonfly would be sooo much easyer to find around here, then any Proa..
Best regards Gunnar Westholm.
Some years ago my colleague and I designed this boat http://www.users.on.net/~malcolmandjane/mi12.html , the Mi12 proa, as a cruising proa. Primarily an Atlantic proa, it can also be sailed as a Pacific proa when necessary. The ballast keel mentioned is optional. If I was building it, I probably wouldn’t put the keel on it.
Cheers,
Mal.
Mal, the Mi12 is sweet! I don’t think I’ve seen it or if I did I’ve forgotten about it.
