I have read everything on the net about Russell Brown and his Proas. It was what Russell wrote in that post that got me thinking through my ama, and starting a new design. The last ama was ready for epoxy and glass, but something felt wrong so i hesitated.
I hope you get your Tiki into the water soon! A boat on dry land is as good as a car out at sea.

I have been working a bit on the new ama and on my slightly longer model. The purple one is the new one.
Its a scale 1:10 of the 14,3 meters vaka. Slightly less rocker, 4,5 cm instead of 5,0 cm. 3 cm wide blunt ends instead of 2 cm on the old one.
I hope i can test sail it tomorrow.
Today i finaly test-sailed my new model advanced sharpie proa. The vaka is leaning towards the wind because the akas bend some. That is not good at all. I have to build new akas. There is way to much leeway.
143 cm long. 12,2 cm wide and 4,5 cm rocker in both sides and bottom.
Ï dont want to turn this thread into a blog, but i will post some pictures of my build.

Its called “En proa och en kopp té!”, swedish for “A proa and a cup of te!”. Thats two of my three addictions.
I have not posted anything yet. I will probably start with it more seriously this weekend.

How does one draw an arch with a 25 meter radius on a piece of plywood? I have been thinking about buing 30 meter dyneema-rope, but its not cheap. I dont have any wire or chain…
I suppose i have to draw it scaled down then measure it and scale those numbers up to the right size..
Anyone have any good way of doing this?

You’ve pretty much answered your own question Johannes. I’d personally scale it up from a smaller drawing and use a good batten to make sure the curve is fair. it’s worked for hundreds of years 😊

perhaps a little math will help. If you know the length of the arc base (c), you can calculate the height of the arc (b). Than use a batten to sheer it.

Math is a big problem for me. Im totally worthless at it. I think 1 + 1 = 2, but i´m not sure without my calculator.
I think the scale + batten is the easiest way for me.
