I’ve joined proafile recently, and wanted to say hello to the group.  I’m interested in the idea of building a proa as I believe the design fits my needs from a performance, personality, usage and budget perspective.

I’m a life-long performance dinghy sailor - mostly trapeze skiffs and the like.  I14s, 505s etc.  I’ve built a couple boats - including a single hand I-14ish training boat with trapeze and asymmetrical spinnaker.  I’m on the wrong side of fifty now, and I’m not having as much fun with unplanned swims on a regular basis.  I bought plans for a home build sport boat, but just can’t digest the thought of lead and boating Nyquil.  I know Chris O from years as on-line “friends”, but am new to the people of your community.

I’ve spent the last few days reading all the content on this site and absorbing the great information it contains.

My immediate hopes are that I can build a weekender/daysailer that fits with my locale, my available time and budget.  I may be part of the reason Chris O. has joined - I’ve been talking to him about collaborating on a design.  I’m looking to sail in nearby Great Lakes (family has a home on Huron), the Ottawa River, St. Lawrence/Thousand Islands etc.  Inland mostly, but can be big water.  Trailering is important.

Cheers,

Bill

Welcome to the forum Bill S!

I hope you find a proa-concept that will suit your needs.
“Trailerable” is easy with a light weight proa, and as a trapeze skiffs-sailor i think you will find the proa natural for you. The outrigger being a hugh “trapeze” that will float your weight without effort.

Cheers
