I ve started building my first proa (Garry Dierking wa`apa) in 2010, firstly used as 5 meter with hawaian sail, then next year as 7,2 meters version - three pieces jointed with screws and big crab claw, shunting configuration, unfortunately it was broken, more precisely I`ve broken connection ama-iakos because one mistake in connecting shrouds, crab claw sail proved to be incredibely powerful. what was more astonishing - broken proa was still operational, although I did not dare to use sail, switching to paddling. but I quit wa`apa foounding it too heavy and too big, I prefer cartopping than trailering. so in 2012 experiment with a kind of outrigger but only paddling, now waiting for rebuilding to add sail and reconfiguration as ngalawa, not proa.
in 2012 big surprise - one man from Germany (thank you M!) gave me his old ama and vaka of P5 proa (multihul.de) which is very similar to Gary Dierking T2. Now (spring 2013) I am preparing iakos, crab claw sail, stearing oars etc, to start the season as soon as possible.
