Hi Proafilers
My name is Phil McLean, I live in Media PA. I’ve been sailing and racing sailboats for awhile, and own a small boat (Norseboat) which I’ve used in a couple of Watertribe events. I’ve plans and enough Okoume ply for a Strike 15, but am leaning away from the design and towards a proa.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am intrigued by Harryproas, but will try to keep it hidden as much as possible!
The posts I have enjoyed a great deal (while lurking before announcing myself) have been those of deep V sections and sea-kindliness, the P12 project, & the many threads dealing with Dick Newick’s beautiful designs; interesting that his final “fun” boat had a crab claw sail of sorts… Shows that great mind and sailor respected the wisdom of his Polynesian predecessors.
I was struck by the open-mindedness to debating the value of an Atlantic vs Pacific proa, or even combining them in the same boat, in order to get the best of both worlds.
Hope to learn a great deal more, and perhaps post pictures of putting my shop to good use!
Welcome Phil,
Thanks for introducing yourself and sharing.

We are all here to learn through exchange. So looking forward to those possible pictures. 😊
