Just thought I’d introduce myself. I’m Dan and have had a facination for Gary Dierking’s designs and have built an Ulua and two Tamanu canoe hulls I’m using as a cat. I love reading about all things multihull, including proas. I like the attitude here and enjoyed the Aloha comment and pun on the forum. Interesting deisgn ideas are out there, and a couple have caused me to rethink how I’m going to be pursuing my next boat.
I’m thinking of doing a solo + boat that’s capable of carrying about 400# without looking too buoyant at 250#. I was inspired by some of the parts lying around my garage as well as some ideas here on the forum. thanks for putting together this site BTW! Anyhow, I’ve kicked around a few thoughts ranging from an old A cat, to an outrigger with plug in safety ama, to a light folding tri like Frank Smoot’s getting some attention recently. The Intrepid caused me to think of the proa one more time as I’ve been influenced by the Texas 200 sailors like Kevin O’Neil, Laurent, and Skip who I’ve seen over here as well.
Anyhow, any good ideas are welcome, and I hope to bring something positive to the table!
Sincerely,
Dan
