Aloha Proa fans,
The answer is ; yes I am still working on it , it has been an incredible [commercially] busy winter.
- for a few month now, Iam redesigning my proa models vaka & ama for plywood building. and that is not as easy as it sounds.
The thing is I dislike most hulls with chines , and as such it took me a while to get over it, and I have now a master model I like , with the big benefit of quick panel building. hardly a chine to find.
With this master model I can upscale-downscale while still beeing able to change displacement ,width ,freeboard , rig etc. to the requirements.

chined hulls
Aloha,
This round body vaka could be changed to a full plywood chined construction. Its just what one prefers.
Cheers Sven
bow view
cockpit view
Sleeping Facility leeward wingpod 2 double bunks , another double in the end.
room for 3 couples , benches in the midsection are long enough to sleep on as well.
Interior Layout
Two entrances to avoid typical companionway congestion , but also while sailing the forward hatchway is closed, so the aft one is facing off the spray.
Head Area w/full standing headroom
door forward to store room, waste water tank
Galley Counters
1 galley counter for cooking [diesel fuel] , 1 galley counter w /large sink
80ltr freezer under floor & 250ltr cold store under floor

I like this very much… what is the rig set up? Or did I miss something? What are calculating the load capacity to be?
Wow, Sven- the proa is lovely! You have been hard at work!
Could you share some details about the new wishbone rig? Will there still be roller-furling jibs/genoas?
If made in plywood, will it still be able to be disassembled in a 40ft container?
I aslo was wondering about the gigantic head area- could it be made smaller in order to to increase the size of the galley?
My wife and I will spend (I hope) more time cooking together than flushing together!
Cheers,
Mitchell Hay
Oh, and yes I dislike a chined hull as well. Any particular reason as opposed to the same basic Jzerro hull which is beachable with less bottom area friction? Just wondering.

Aloha Tom, The shown [green] hull is the 53ft ,it is as for yet not chined at all.
The build method is a very strong “underbody” of red western cedar, as such all difficult bends can be negotiated . the rest will be high quality plywood.
all decks in a sandwich construction. for lightness & insulation.
This together will be top quality for relative low price.
and yes I still prefer this 53ft shape over chine, the only downside, its for more advanced boatbuilders , and slower to put together and fair ,but can be done with the right guidance. the result is a very strong underbody that can take big blow or beach.
In both cases the main components & joinery come from our CNC router bench as build package, ...

Well that’s nice to know. Thanks. Are you guys selling build packages or could someone just buy the plans for the 58’ when they become available?
Seems as though if I’m correct a the 58’ would be appx to accomodations of a 35’ Cat.

Hi Tom,
(Talking Buying & Selling is not allowed on this forum , only talking proa is….......email me..)
Interior volume ; actually its a lot bigger due to having the two volumes in one , you donot encounter the narrow cat feel , it that sense its more a narrow monohull feel .
I build and owned a 38ft Waterballasted ULDB for years , if I compair that one to the 53ft proa , the proa is way more boat .
its fair to say that the 53 ft is like a 43ft monohull as far as the interior concerns, only 3 times the speed potential.
Just think of having 3 large double berth, a large head/ shower area, and acres of galley, twin entrace, outside tarrace, 25 sqm of trampoline, large storerooms, an engine room some 25 ft away, freezer, cooler, Etc.
Well name me the 43ft monohull that has all that!!!
