I reread the first page of your thread and found that you had already thought of this in post #12.

so much for my memory…...............

Cheers
Johannes

I think it is the nature of the beast,  the current design in post 39 is a very close child to one in post 12. I will make a model eventually but been distracted. Working the hydrostatics for a 14ft day boat proa, vaka sort of dory hull for two day sailing or single handed lightweight camper. Delft ship and my CAD don’t like each other so a bit of a chew on.

Don’t laugh at the model, it only took an hour to make but it is great to be active again and it tests the concept.
The rig works well and the system for tensioning the luff works just fine.
Though they can barely be seen the black lines are the sheets and the light lines move the CE and hence steer.

The sail is Cartridge paper, next job is a rip stop nylon sail.

It all works like I had imagined, I am going to take some video and post it on YouTube

Thanks for posting a great picture of a working model. I like it a lot! A picture is worth a 100 words and a video is worth a 100 pictures!
I am very impressed by the lug-rig. It is very simple, efficient and cheap. Qualitys I value.

I really enjoy all your great ideas.

Cheers,
Johannes

I have been playing with my little model all night and it works well. Lots of control and simple, I know some of you will have concerns over luff tension and I accept that. The rig is intended for my minimal proa which is about localising and balancing forces centrally so the rest of the proa can be light weight.

The video editing software took longer to download than the model took to build, my first you tube video is very rough but hopefully it gets the point across

Getting the hang gf this videoing now, hopefully this one is self explanatory.

Next task is to replace the paper sail with a rip stop nylon one so I can experiment with luff tension and real wind, I am then thinking an RC model

I must say i’m very impressed by your simple and easily controlled lug-rig.

I really like the “global” simplicity combined with a lot of control and options for advanced trim.

Cheers,
Johannes.

Dog leg mast, keep failing to attach, even with a tiny file size

Do you have a fan?  Some wind would make this more interesting.

No fan, at the moment the sail is cartridge paper, the videos rely on gravity to shunt, the whole model is heeled about 20 degrees.  Now I have got the basic system working I am going to make a rip stop nylon sail. I have open fields to the front of my house and a steady wind which should suffice.

After that I will mount it on a turn table like and old fashion windsurf trainer.

Fun fun fun

Not a very well made rip stop sail, attempts add some shape to the foot and head with a tape constructed sail failed - off to research better construction method.
