Alu Proa Build in Belgium

18 January 2020     Editor    4 Comments.

I was pleased to find this email from Ewaut Van Wassenhove in my inbox:

It was a while ago but through your website I came across plans for Madness by Chesepeake Light Craft and now I’m building a scaled up version of the plans in aluminum in Belgium.

I’m super stoked about the design and I’m making an effort to make weekly updates on YouTube about the whole build.

I recently made a YouTube explainer video or an effort to explain why I chose this type of boat and what the differences and advantages/disadvantages are.

You can also follow my progress on Instagram: kingherog

Best of luck with your building and cruising adventures, Ewaut.

  • I can hear from the movie that the project is based on CLC Madness design, which I like the a lot. The project seems worth to follow.
I see alu in the the overall structure of akas and vaka-ama connections as a challenge , due to very low fatigue resistance comparing to wood.

  • Hey Bilbo, I can’t post an update unless peeps send me news. Seems like Facebook has taken over that space. If you have any ideas on how to use this slice of cyberspace, let me know.

  • Couple of motivated contributors with you acting as editor I suppose would be the go, bit of continuity applied to former events reported, like I would love an update on John pizzeys stories and what the hell happened with that mad 50 plus foot proa that was trying to get into the route du rhum etc, must be a few armchair proanauts that could follow up sending the odd inquiry for info?
