Posted by on 04/24 at 07:06 PM
Eco-friendly surfboards from Australia - quoted from their site: Bamboo itself has been found to have multiple applications other than surfboards. Its characteristics include: 1) It is lighter and stronger than fiberglass; 2) Improved buoyancy; 3) Able to be applied to any shape; 4) Easy to apply; 5) Bamboo is a renewable resource and is ecologically friendly; 6) Bamboo grows to timber size in 3 - 5 years, while most hardwood trees take 20 - 30 years. • Yes,
Based in Canberra and spending time on the coast at Batemans Bay and Eden. I tried to contact them about prices foer internal walls and for raw materials as I am in the v. slow process of putting together a microcruising proa based on a cross betwen a Jarcat and an Elementarry -something like the Shuntamaran-and wanted to check out the feasability of using the bamboo over quality styrafoam for the deck and cabin top. I plan to visit the Harry factory at Coffs Harbour when the 8.5m ww Harry is launched and plan to visit the bamboo surfboard factory while up there, as I realy like the concept= possibly even bamboo over Kiri may be an option.

  • I have been talking to some people who are bamboo suppliers and one of them is about to build a Kendrik tri using bamboo mat as a skin for a sandwich construction. Stiffer and lighter than glass. I am planning to test it out on a polypropylene honeycomb core for the hulls and using bamboo lathes over end grain balsa for rudder blades
